Jayce and I had strep throat. Then, I developed the stomach flu, which I shared with Jaycobson, and then all eight of us have had or still have the common sore throat/head/chest cold. Needless to say, the snow couldn't have come at a better time! Today is the first day that I have felt good in over three weeks. Pat was the last to get it, and he is pretty miserable, but still made the effort to go sledding with the kids (since I hate to be cold!). Pat leaves for Maryland for his final week of the Leadership Program Saturday morning, and graduates a week from Saturday. I am so proud of him:)

My mom has been staying with Bobbi during the day/evenings, and been helping keep her house picked up, along with laundry, running kids places, taking Bobbi to and from doctor appointments and therapy, and trying to make meals. So many are still bringing food to their house, which I know they appreciate very much. Mom too ended up with the sore throat/head cold, and I don't know how she is doing it as bad as she feels. Mom is very worried about Bobbi, and I know that she is doing what any mother would do. Please pray that my mom gets to feeling better, and Bobbi starts keeping food, liquid, & meds down. Mom & I worry about Bobbi being dehydrated, not keeping her meds & food down, and the possibility of having to have another surgery. She will go back to see Dr. Diaz at the end of February. I have to keep reminding myself that Bobbi has made a lot of progress, and it is still going to take time. Even though she is home, she has a lot of therapy to do, and it's not all going to get better over night.

On the brighter side, Jayleigh & Jayden both qualified for the Optimist Basketball Regional Competition last weekend. They will be competing at Huntingburg on February 8. I am so proud of them:)
Jayce's basketball team's record is now 8-1. They had a big game scheduled against Orleans Tuesday night that got cancelled due to the snow. I hope they get to make it up:) Their only loss this year is to BR, which I think all the Loogootee teams have been beaten by besides our 8th grade & freshmen teams. It is hard to say, but BR's basketball program is doing well, and I hope that Loogootee gets our feeder program back on the right track. If you take a look at BR's program, all their coaches are past BR players, and they have two to three ex players on every bench. That says a lot for the dedication to their program. They have third and fourth graders on the fifth grade team. I have to say that BR's 5th grade team was the best I have watched at that grade level since Loogootee's Jordan Hawkins, Mike Wininger, & Neil Strange's class. They are a fundamentally sound group, and they are going to be hard to beat in the future. Loogootee can't keep playing catch up as we have for the past few years - If I'm not mistaken, our 8th grade got beat by BR as 5th, 6th, and 7th graders). Our 5th & 6th grade schedule is a great place to start making changes. BR's elementary basketball teams start playing games weeks before we do, and the amount of games they play to ours is ridiculous. Someone needs to invest some time in revamping our elementary schedule:) I guess when you have an Albert Kavanuagh looking over the entire program, that says a lot. Loogootee needs to get someone to take the time and invest it into our program, and we can't rely on our head coach to do it. I don't think their program is successful solely because of Coach Hughes, he has a lot of help:) We need to wake up and get involved if we want our program back in the right direction:) I get so tired of reading post on the Hardwood Portal about how strong the BR program is, and how Loogootee is getting beat by them at virtually every grade level (though the score of the sixth grade Loogootee/BR game was not not an accurate post). I commend BR for putting the time and effort into their basketball program that many are now viewing as the best program in our area. I do pray for my six kids' sakes that Loogootee wakes up and does something about it! Until next time ~ Nikki
PS
I would like to ask for prayers for my sister-in-law Marcia who had surgery a few weeks ago. She is home and on doctor's orders of plenty of rest and to take it easy. As us moms know, that can be hard to do at times:)
We are looking forward to spring break! As of today, we are up to 17 families going to Florida together. Our kids are going to have a blast, and I think the adults will enjoy themselves, too:)

Bobbi Sue

Bobbi continues to make lots of progress with each new day. It was such a relief to have smiling faces greet us:) It didn't take long for us to know that Bobbi would receive great care. Her stay at Seton was not pleasant, and we couldn't get to Jasper quick enough. As the new year rolled in, Bobbi, nurses Rosie & Nancy, Mom, & I were all saying, "Happy New Year".
I know Bobbi has really appreciated all the cards she has received, and loves for me to read them to her. She can't wait to visit with everyone, but she needs this week of rehab to focus on Bobbi and getting her strength back. They have strict visiting hours at Rehab because she will be in therapy for many hours a day, and will need to rest when she is not in therapy. So, if you call don't be disappointed if she doesn't answer. She will be very busy, which is what is needed for her quick recovery. She does want to see and talk with everyone very soon:)
I am so thankful to be home without thinking of driving to Indy for a long time. I will miss my daily visits with my childhood best friend Chrissy who I have promised to stay in touch with. She brought back so many wonderful childhood memories for me, Mom & Bobbi. When Chrissy was leaving she gave me a present, and said I am so glad to have my friend back, and Bobbi burst in tears and said, "I miss my best friend Angie." There wasn't a dry eye in the room. I know Angie was there with us:)
Thank you Lord for being with us every step of this long journey. This was another reminder that You are always with us, and have NEVER left our side. I LOVE & PRAISE YOU:)

Forever grateful, Nikki

Depressed

It is hard to believe that tomorrow is Christmas Eve. Pat & I finally bought a few Christmas presents for the kids last night after Jayce's basketball game. I have now got to watch 3 of Jayce's ballgames, and I'm glad to say that Jayce's confidence keeps getting better with each game he plays. Jayce hit his first 3 pointer on Saturday, scored 7 points last night with two steals, three rebounds and two assists. That is saying a lot for someone who will rarely take a shot. We have been encouraging him to shoot the ball more, and he is starting to come around.

Today has been a rough day for Bobbi. During therapy this morning, the area around her trache started bleeding pretty profusely. Mom said that there was a lot of blood, and it was even in her urine in her catheter bag. They had three people putting pressure on the site as they rushed her to St. Vincent's on 86th Street. There the ENT cauterized it, and got the bleeding under control. She was then transported back to Seton. Mom bragged on how well Bobbi kept calm during all of this. She said that she can tell tonight that Bobbi is a little scared because she keeps telling the therapists/nurses not to touch her neck. I know that Mom is worn out today as she told me that she hasn't had time to change her clothes or brush her hair. I am thankful for my dear friend Chrissy who continues to check on both Bobbi and Mom, and took Mom supper last night, which Mom warmed the left overs up tonight, and also the air bed that she took for Mom to sleep on. Mom didn't tell me until last night that she had been sleeping on the suitcases on the floor. I don't know how Mom is doing it, and I thank God that we are blessed with such a dedicated & loving mother.
Also, my friend Kim continues to check on the two of them and has taken Mom a basket a goodies along with supper. She is planning to stop in tomorrow with breakfast:)

Tomorrow will be a rough day for all of my family, as we spend every Christmas Eve together at my parents' house. We have decided to skip this year as it wouldn't be the same without Bobbi. Pat & I plan to take our children to see Bobbi tomorrow, if the weather permits. Thanks Connie W. for sending gift baskets to both Bobbi and Mom. I know they will love them:)

I wish everyone a happy holiday season, and hope you and yours have a blessed Christmas!

God Bless, Nikki

Happy Anniversary

Pat & I are celebrating our 15 year wedding anniversary today, December 18! Not sure if time flies because you're having fun, too busy, or so in love..... I do know that I am as madly in love with my husband now as I was when I first fell in love with him 23 years ago. It's hard to believe that my 13th birthday wish was to be Mrs. Patrick Jay Wagoner. Watch what you wish for....lol.
Looking forward to many more wedding anniversaries as Mrs. Wagoner - Nikki

PS
If you haven't heard, Pat got a "big" job promotion. I wish I could say Bobbi Sue was home too, but she is making progress, and I hope to have her here with us all very soon. She was transferred to a rehab hospital yesterday. She will receive therapy there at least every 4 hours.
I had Luke, Abbi, and Jacob for a few hours tonight, and they all got to talk with their mommy on the telephone. I could tell that she is already much stronger than when I left her last night. I know that she will do everything she can to get home to her babies as quickly as possible. She misses them so much:)

Bobbi received so many cards while at St. Vincent/Carmel, and I know they mean so much to her. It was nice to get them each day, and they are constant reminders of how many care about her. The amount of people praying for her is a true blessing, and her still being with us is the answer to all of our prayers.
If you would like to send a card or call, the address/phone # is:
St.Vincent Seton Specialty Hospital - Indianapolis
Bobbi Sue Nonte Room #208
8050 Township Line Road
Indianapolis, IN 46260
317-415-8500

I would like to thank everyone for their continued love, prayers, and support. This blog has been a good way for me to keep track of the many people that have been by my families' side during this difficult time.

I would like to say a special thank you to:

Rob & Dee Dee Street & Dave & Carol Hedrick each for giving me a gas gift card. These will come in handy over the many trips I will be making to see Bobbi while she is away from home. Also, thanks Dee Dee for answering my many late night/early morning telephone calls. You have been a great support to me:)

My dear school friend & college roommate Mary (Arvin) Grindstaff had food made and brought to my house for Pat & my kids. I know you are following my blog in Tennessee, and I appreciate your friendship & love. You are always so sweet & thoughtful:) (You even remembered my 15 year wedding anniversary that is tomorrow! I don't think you miss anything, and I truly don't know how you do it. You keep us all in the loop, and I am thankful for that!!)

Thanks to my great school friend Krista Sims who always helps when asked. I have called you many of times, and you are always there. Thanks for being a blessing to me:)

Pat called me last week while I was at the hospital and said that Lisa Nonte brought the best food, and it reminded him so much of my mom's cooking. Lisa is not only a great cook, but makes excellent cakes, and I would recommend her cakes for any occasion. (Thanks again Lisa for the cake donation for the school Fall Festival.)

Kristi Thomas & Kara Bowling also have watched my children while Jayce has had ballgames. They both never hesitate when I call them. You have been great friends for many years:)

While I have been at the hospital, I have had many good friends come to offer support in many ways. My childhood best friend & college roommate, Chrissy (Peoples) Miller has been there many nights with me, and brought mom, dad, and me supper and Starbucks. Bobbi knew Chrissy had been there when she woke up and asked for Chrissy. Chrissy's sister Angie that is no longer here on Earth with us, was Bobbi's childhood best friend. The four of us were best friends at an early age. Bobbi misses Angie so much, and I know Chrissy being there means a lot to her. Mom called tonight and said Chrissy brought her supper, and stayed and visited for some time. It is a comfort having Chrissy there so close to Bobbi, and I know that she will continue to check in with mom, and visit with them both. I love you, sis:)

Also, my dear friend & college roommate Gina (Duncheon) Nicholson stopped by last Friday at the hospital, and offered to take me to lunch. I wasn't ready to be away from Bobbi at that time, but I appreciated the nice gesture, and loved the visit from Gina and her precious daughter Olivia:)

Another school best friend, Kim (Leighty) Bates & her husband Bill, stopped by and visited last week. They brought lots of magazines which brought back memories of when I was in the hospital for six weeks expecting my triplets, and Kim's brother and Pat's best friend Kevin would bring me magazines and books to read. It makes me sad thinking about how unfair it is for Kevin to no longer be here on Earth with us. I know Kevin is partying it up in Heaven, and he is watching over us:) WE LOVE & MISS YOU KEVIN!!

I am sure I have forgotten to mention someone, and I do apologize. The past few weeks have been so overwhelming, and it seems to all blend together. I know that I never got the time to call Dr. Jackie Graber who stopped by the hospital while I was eating lunch, and visited with my mom. Jackie even invited my family over for Thanksgiving Dinner. It seems as if Jackie is always around when my family needs her. She just so happened to be my anesthesiologist when I delivered the triplets, and she took great care of me.

I am not sure if Tina (Tow) P. is reading this, but I appreciate your visits at the hospital, and I know my mom does too! I wish I would have gotten to see you. I miss you:)

Thanks again Rob, Martha, and boys for visiting again last Sunday. Martha's cookies are the best and I think I ate six that night:)

My cousins, Kerri Nonte & Tracey Allen are both frequent visitors, and give so much support to Bobbi, and all of us there. I truly don't know what we would have done without them being there.

I would like to ask for prayers for Josh Jeffers's grandmother who is very ill in the hospital. I ask that we lift her and the family up to our Lord, and ask for the spirit of comfort to surround them.

Also, my friend & co-worker, Hannah Kidwell, is having surgery tomorrow. Please pray that her surgery goes according to plan, and she has a speedy recovery.

In a previous post, I asked for prayers for two of Bobbi's fellow ICU patients Matt & Sue. It is great to share that Matt got transferred to the rehab hospital a week before Bobbi. I know God is listening to all of our prayers, and I ask that we continue to lift up our new friend Sue as she is still critical in ICU. Her family has became very dear to mine, and we have formed a special bond. I pray that God heals Sue, and that she too will join Bobbi & Matt at the rehab hospital.

Love to all, Nikki

PS
I was thrilled to hear Jayce's band concert tonight. I was so impressed, and it was nice to hear Brooke play with the high school band. Abbi fell asleep in my arms during the last song; it was the best. As part of our routine when going as a family to Amber Jo's, we eat next door at Fat Boys. Well, Rita (Amber's mom), went to Fat Boys and ordered 3 large pizzas for my family. I can't describe how much Amber and Rita mean to my family. We look forward to seeing them every five weeks, and my kids always ask how much longer until we go back to Amber Jo's just days after being there. Also, just days after Bobbi getting really ill, Rita brought food to Bobbi's house. Rita & Amber are Christian examples to so many, and God does so many blessings through them. They are both such an inspiration to me, and I love them both very much:)

Brooke G. also has offered to clean, do laundry, and help out at Bobbi's house along with my cousin Brandi H. I know Bobbi will appreciate their acts of kindness; it's a job to keep the laundry alone done. Also, Brooke G. gave gas money. God continues to bless us through earthly angels.

In previous posts, I failed to mention Jaybe's babysitter Helen D. She is a wonderful lady whom I am glad to call my friend. Helen and Bobbi have been friends for a long time. Helen has sent chili, brownies, and cookies home with Pat when picking Jaybe up. Helen cares not only for Jaybe, but Luke, Abbi, and Tia. She has been so supportive of my family through not only the loss of Fletch, but now with the illness of Bobbi. Helen is a dear family friend, and we love her family so much.

I would like to thank Tammy Z. for bringing snacks to my family and making me a CD to listen to.

I was scheduled to go back to the hospital tonight for the night shift, but my mom and Terri R. both called/text and said the roads there are bad and I should wait until daylight.

I'm not sure of when I will get on the computer again, but will send out a text on Monday after Bobbi gets out of surgery. God bless everyone!

Surgery

Just wanted to let everyone know that Bobbi Sue will be having tracheotomy surgery on Monday at 2:30P.M. We were originally shooting for 7 A.M. with Dr. Beech, but there was not an OR room available until the afternoon. Dr. Stevens will be performing the surgery. Please say an extra prayer that day. I will let everyone know by text when she is out of surgery.

Also, I would like to thank Bob & Susan B. for the delicious jambalaya. We have been blessed by so many wonderful friends.

Loogootee Lions are now 3 & 0 and have a home game tonight against Vincennes Rivet. Meridian
Carmel, IN 46032

I hope everyone likes my new playlist. As each day brings new trials, I remind myself to "Shout To The Lord". Without Him, nothing is possible.

Also, the second song is for my favorite season, "basketball". I am so ready to watch some exciting Loogootee basketball games. From what I have been told, our varsity looks good, and we are in for a "fun to watch" season. I am so proud of my brother-in-law Mike, and our school administration for finally giving him the opportunity to fulfill his dream. His mother has waited a long time for this season to be here.
I hate that I missed Jayce's first game, but I know that I was needed that night with Bobbi. I look forward to being back home to watch Brooke, Will, Jacob, Wynter, Waylee, Jayce, and Jayden all play the sport that we so love. I don't think there is a family that is more dedicated to our basketball tradition than mine. I am so thankful that I have a husband that is driven to pass on his talent of teaching the game to our youth. He takes pride in teaching the game of basketball, and I often get reminded by so many that have had the opportunity to be coached by him of how thankful they are for what he has taught them. The seniors are glad to have his "voice" around again. They have missed him as much as he has missed seeing them play the game the way he has always known they could. LOOGOOTEE BASKETBALL IS BACK AND THRIVING!!!!:)

Little Change

Not a lot to update on Bobbi Sue's status. She did have her third PIC line removed, and a new one put in today. She was seen by the physician that will be putting her trache in on Monday morning at 7 A.M. Since she is back to being sedated and on the ventilator, they have been able to get some "junk" out of her lungs. I feel that there won't be much to post until Monday. If something would change, I will let everyone know as soon as possible. I would like to thank everyone again for their love and support. I know that I have called some of you in the middle of the night during my few breakdowns, and I appreciate your understanding by listening to me vent and giving me words of encouragement. I would like to thank the entire staff at East for being there for both Tara & I during this difficult time. Your kindness will not be forgotten, and I am sure God is smiling down on all of you!!! Your thoughtfulness of sending money with us to have while we are away from home, and the meals for our children are both testimonies to what wonderful christian people work at Elem. East. We love you all, and we are thankful to be a part of the Loogootee East Family. Thanks Tim S. for helping with my lesson plans, Roberta W. & Hannah A. for helping with Tyra & Jayce, Mr. Powell for being so understanding and offering his comforting words along with his big heart, and Anita H. for always being the backbone for everyone at East when our East Family is in need of support. My teaching assistant, Mary F. is a daily inspiration to me, and I want to thank her for my bracelet full of encouragement, and for being a huge support to my classroom children. I can't thank Debbie S. enough for volunteering her time to assist in my classroom each week. She too is an angel sent from above:) Thank you to the parents of both my & Mrs. Williams's classrooms. You have been so understanding and supportive. I miss my students as much as they miss me, and I think of them in my daily prayers. The cards they made me were so uplifting, and I am thankful to teach such wonderful, caring children. They are a reflection of their thoughtful parents:)
I would like to say a special thanks to Carlye C. for having Jayleigh over last weekend, and Hannah A. for keeping her this weekend as she will need help getting ready for the cheer clinic/ballgame on Saturday, and being in the Christmas parade on Sunday.
Hannah A. & Kristi T. both watched my children while Pat went to Jayce's ballgame last Monday night, and my kids loved it:) Thanks to Martha & Rob B. for helping get Jayce home from basketball practices, and for bringing snacks to the hospital.
Thank you to everyone that has offered to help with the care of my children. Thank you Melissa H. for being a big part of my family's lives since the birth of the triplets. You are a blessing:)
Also, thanks to Marcia W. and Donna S. for making supper for my family and Bobbi's last night. You are both very special people, and we love you very much!
Everyone that has been my texting buddies the past three weeks - you have been a great support system. I am slowly getting the hang of the texting thing. lol
I apologize if I have left anyone out. We have had so many visitors at the hospital, cards, and offers to stay at their homes in Indy. I continue to be amazed at how many people are willing to help in the time of need. We have had visitors at the hospital that we have never met before, but knew of us or our family and have stopped by to offer their support in many different ways. May God Bless Each Of You:)
Thanks for the continued prayers. Her morning started by her sedative being slowly turned off. At 1:05 P.M. the timer started for her trial of the vent being turned off. Bobbi had George, Lisa & Jeff N., and myself at her bedside. As she became more awake, it was evident that she was determined to do whatever it was going to take to get the tube out of her throat. With lots of encouragement by George and Lisa, Bobbi was able to make it for thirty-five minutes with no problems. She listened to every word George would say, and he kept her so calm. I am so proud of George for his love and support of my sister. It was such an inspiration watching him give 100% to helping Bobbi get through this most difficult time. The respiratory therapist doing the trial even went to lunch while Bobbi was doing the thirty minute trial. George was watching the clock and knew when she had successfully made the thirty minutes and was quick to tell the nurse to get the RT back. At 1:45 P.M. the RT was back and said that she thought Bobbi "would fly" but the decision would be up to the ICU doctor and she would have to call him. I told her that I was sure he wanted her off, and was confident that he would agree with her. Five minutes later, she returned with another RT and they started the process of preparing to turn the vent off, pull the tube out, and getting oxygen ready to be placed in Bobbi's nose. At approximately 2:00 P.M. Bobbi Sue was off the vent and breathing on her own. Jeff quickly got my parents, who were anxiously waiting outside the door. As the room filled with nurses, Bobbi kept repeating, "I love you Daddy... I love my Daddy." One of our favorite nurses, Penny, hugged my mom with tears in her eyes. It was a very touching moment:)
As time would pass, it was hard to see Bobbi struggle to breathe. We had to keep reminding her that she shouldn't try to talk, but out of panic, she would express to us that she wanted us to get her out of there. You could see fear in her. As hours would pass, I was unsure how I was going to make it through the night. I was so scared seeing her struggle, and her telling us repeatedly that she couldn't breathe. She begged my cousin Kerri not to leave her, and it was evident that my brother Johnny and cousin Kerri helped her feel safe. She kept begging them to get her out of there. Kerri convinced me that I could do it, and I finally reminded myself that there is no fear in God and He would get Bobbi and I through the night.
The next twenty-four hours were very nerve racking for me as I was determined to stay beside Bobbi watching her every breath. I was so fixated on her stats on the monitor that her nurse turned the screen to help me relax. That didn't work, and I quickly had to move where I could see it. Bobbi didn't sleep at all that night, and we had some very funny moments where she would say some crazy things. For example - when the alarms would go off, she would ask my brother "why are we at Disney", and out of the blue she said, "my name is Bobbi, and I am an alcoholic" - which about made me pee my pants knowing that Bobbi won't drink any alcohol. When Johnny told her, "you don't drink", she said, "I'm going to when I get out of here." I end up getting a piece of paper and writing down some of the funny things she was saying.
My parents and brother are still with Bobbi. Mom & Dad are staying from early morning until late evening, visits from my cousins, Kerri, Tracey, and Teressa after they get off work, and my brother staying through the night and also there during the day, getting little sleep; he has taken my role over. My cousin Terri is going up tomorrow after work to stay until Saturday evening. I hope my parents and Johnny will feel they can take a break because I don't want them to get worn down. I know how I feel after two weeks of staying there around the clock.
As of tonight, Bobbi is still very dazed, and occasionally needs C PAP. Physical Therapy started today, but she was unable to do any of the lower body exercises, and very little upper body. I know that she is going to have some more trying times ahead, but we are so thankful that she is still here with us. The hope is to have her moved out of ICU to the second floor on Friday.
Thanks again for all the prayers, cards, help with the kids, food, gas cards, and money. You have been blessings to our family. I will keep updating as often as possible.
Love & God bless, Nikki
PS
During my two week stay in the ICU family waiting room, my family has made some new friends that need our prayers. I ask that you pray for the healing of Matthew & Sue. They are both very ill, and I pray that their families find strength in their faith for our Lord Jesus Christ, as He continues to give them the will to get through each day.
I ask God to heal both Matthew & Sue as He did my sister Bobbi Sue. Yesterday, Bobbi's chest x-ray showed no improvement/change from the previous two. So, they feel that her right lung is either not filling completely or she has pneumonia. They started an antibiotic to cover pneumonia and increased the pressure on the ventilator from three to ten. The plan is to repeat the chest x-ray today or tomorrow.
Last night was a rough night. Bobbi's heart now is beating out of rhythm. She had an EKG at 3 AM, and we are waiting for the cardiologist to come in.
I pray that Bobbi's lungs heal, we see improvement in her kidney funtion levels, and her EKG comes back okay. I appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers. This has been a roller coaster for over two weeks, and I pray that today is a great day for Bobbi. God Bless everyone! We had our daily meetings with the four doctors (ICU, Renal, Infection, Surgeon). Being a holiday, three of the four doctors had not seen Bobbi before today. As you know, the ICU doctor tried to take Bobbi off of the ventilator yesterday, and said we would try again today. Well, it was a new doctor and he thought differently. He wanted to slowly wean Bobbi off the vent. We felt that sounded like a good plan, but didn't like it when he told us that it may take several days to do that. After having the vent turned down a few settings, the respiratory therapist decide that Bobbi needed to go back to the setting she was on. It was another disappointment, but not as emotional as yesterday. We look forward to her ICU doctor from yesterday being back tomorrow.

Bobbi's kidney function levels continue to rise slightly each day, but her urine output is three times as much as her input. The renal doctor feels that we will see the function level go down soon and he made no med changes, but ordered a chest x-ray for tomorrow morning.

The surgeon removed some of Bobbi's staples, and feels that her infection is coming from the wound site. She clean it up today, and said she saw signs of infection and ordered her dressings to be changed more frequently. She also had the central line that monitored her blood pressure removed.

All of Bobbi's cultures from yesterday came back negative, which leads the infection doctor to think that the infection is in the wound. Cultures were sent off today, and the initial report will be back tomorrow.

All in all, we had a stable day. George, Mom, Tara, and I had Thanksgiving dinner in the cafeteria, received communion, and prayed in the the chapel.

I would like to end tonight with a Thanksgiving prayer:
O Lord, we are grateful not only for the gifts of life itself, but for all the gifts of friendship, love, devotion and forgiveness we have shared. On this Feast of Giving Thanks, we thank you for showing us how to return thanks by a life of service, by deeds of hospitality, by kindness to the stranger and by concern for others. We are most grateful for the way You, our invisible God, become visible to us through others, in countless daily gifts, and in the wonders of creation. Blessed are You, Lord God, who in the richness of Your Divine Love, bless us with the many good things. Amen

Thanks for your continued prayers! I have spent very little time away from Bobbi's side. I am not sure that I have the strength to post much now, but wanted to let everyone know how much we appreciate the prayers, words of encouragement, and help at home with our families. It has been over a week since I have seen my husband and children, and I thank God for blessing me with a wonderful husband/father because I know the past week would not have been possible for me without Pat's unconditional love & support.
Today was extremely emotional. We had our hopes up that Bobbi would be able to come off the ventilator today, but it was unsuccessful. It took approximately two hours for her to wake up after the sedative was turned off. She was still extremely dazed, but did know we were there. She opened her eyes some, and did respond to some of the questions Tara and I would ask her. When Tara asked her if she was her favorite, she shook her head yes, and also Tara asked if she was in pain and again she shook her head yes. When I would speak, she would quickly turned her head to find me. As they turned the vent off, she started to panic, but I laid my face against hers and calmed her reassuring her that she could do it and to stay calm. Tara and I both kept trying to breath with her trying our best to get her to take deep, slow breaths and she did her very best for twelve long minutes. It was so painful seeing her struggle knowing how much she wanted the tube out of her throat. It took all my strength not to panic in front of her, especially when she started to turn blue. We are going to try again tomorrow, but she is now running a temperature and has a secondary infection. They sent blood, urine, and secretions from her vent tube to be tested. Not sure when the results will be back.
I wish everyone a blessed Thanksgiving, and realize how much I have to be thankful for. Thanks for all the Thanksgiving Dinner invites here in Carmel/Indy and at home for my family there. I hope to see everyone soon! Love & God bless you all! Nikki
PS
I would like to say thank you to my cousins Terri R. & Amber W. for helping Bobbi through her inital surgery and Terri for being there through the second one, too! She loves you both so much!!!!
My cousins Kerri N. & Tracey R. also have been here with Bobbi from the beginning. Words cannot express how wonderful they have been through this, and have be a great support to us here.
Bobbi also has had many visitors too while being here, and I know she knows you all love her. We can't wait to share all of her cards with her when she wakes up!
Last, I can't forget to mention how wonderful Georgie has been with Bobbi. He makes a great nurse! lol He loves her so much!!!
Please keep my parents in prayer as I worry about them, too. My mom is a diabetic, and we have to keep a close eye on her. Dad struggles with Bobbi still being on the vent. After her third surgery, one week ago, we all got a wake up call from Dr. Byron. I wanted to let everyone know that Bobbi is still in the hospital, and we are uncertain of when she might get to come home. She is still extremely sick, not able to keep anything down, and her intestine is irritated. Please continue to pray that she gets over the hump, and heads toward recovery. Until she can keep liquids and solids down, being released is not an option. Also, my mom is there with her and with her being a diabetic, I am concerned that she will not get a proper diet. When talking with my cousin tonight, she said that my mom hadn't ate since yesterday. I worry about both of them and my dad because he is out on the semi without my mom.
Jayden came home today with the stomach flu. I wonder who will be vomiting tomorrow?
I pray that God touches Bobbi and gives her the strength she needs to get through this. Thanks for all the phone calls, text messages, and emails. It is a blessing to have so many friends that care about my family. I love you all!
Thanks to my cousins - Terri, Amber, Kerri, Tracey, and Teressa for being there by Bobbi's side. My sister, Bobbi Sue, had a planned surgery last Thursday, and was expected to come home on Saturday. On Saturday evening she had an unexpected emergency surgery. I have been in Loogootee trying to help care for her little ones, in which Luke, Abbi, and my Jaybe ALL ended up with the stomach flu Saturday night/Sunday morning.
The hope is for Bobbi Sue to get to come home on Wednesday, but she had another "rough" night, and we are unsure of what the next 48 hours could be like. Please pray for Bobbi's quick recovery. I will post more details later.
God bless everyone, and thanks in advance for your prayers. God is powerful, and He will see Bobbi through this difficult time.
Love, Nikki

Tanner (far left)

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5265758571109584274" style="DISPLAY: block; Some pictures will be posted soon that were taken after the game. Megan's biggest Loogootee Fans even made the Washington Times Herald sitting right in the middle of the Barr Reeve Cheer Block. The triplets, Jaybe, and I have been hang'n out and had a fun trip to the grocery store last night. We ran into Amber Gilbertson, which was one of their babysitters when they were little, at the grocery store. Amber offered to take them to the Haunted Barn, and Jayleigh was the only one to take her up on the offer. Jaymison & Jaycobson had the same excuses as the night before, my stomach hurts, I'm tired, my leg hurts, ect.. When we got home from the store, Jayleigh and Amber were already back and waiting on us. Jayleigh made it through the Haunted Barn! Her brothers didn't seem to mind that she showed them up. Jayleigh was a little cranky because Krista Sims had bought her press on nails earlier in the day after gymnastics, and she was getting frustrated that they wouldn't stay on. Amber got to see Jayleigh's girl attitude! Amber stayed and visited for some time, which was so nice because it had been ages since we got to spend some time together. She promised to come and visit again soon. We are going to hold her to it! I am planning to take the kids to see High School Musical 3 today. They can't wait, and I am looking forward to it, too! My classroom was decorated with the theme from High School Musical 2, last year. I will post more later.
Nikki

Trick or Treat

The Hunts have survived another Halloween night together. Each Halloween, it is a family tradition to meet at my parents house for supper and a night of Trick or Treat'n with the kids. We always look forward to spending this night together. George always follows along in his truck, and Pat is the trooper that keeps the kids together along the walk through Bellair Village and Country Court. We always end with the final stop at Buehlers.

I can't forget to mention that Bobbi makes the best taco soup and homemade pizza. If I forgot to tell you, THANK YOU - BOBBI- You're the best! lol

Also, I can't forget that Pat took all the kids to the Haunted Barn at the Fairgrounds after trick or treat'n! Jayleigh got too scared and didn't go in, but little Lukee made it all the way through! THANKS PAT - THE HUNTS LOVE YOU! (Just in case you didn't know it already, lol.)

I hope everyone had a safe Halloween!

Nikki

FIREPROOF

Praise God for an uplifting date night with my husband. Pat and I, along with Bobbi, George, Lacy & Josh went to see Fireproof last night. I am a big fan of Facing The Giants so I knew that Fireproof would be just as moving. I love that Pat & I got to watch it together! Pat had us in stitches, and George started day 1 imediately following the movie:) lol Everyone needs to take a look at THE LOVE DARE. I have parent/teacher conferences for my five tomorrow. The triplet's teacher, Mrs. Amber Smith is such a blessing. She is so good with the three of them. It is such a relief knowing each day that they are with someone that cares about them like she does. I have to say, I think she is a top notch teacher.
Jayden's teacher, Mr. Bryan Fountain is also a wonderful educator. He is another fine example of the quality teachers at Elem. West. Jayden really loves 3rd grade, and Mr. Fountain makes school a real blast! Jayden is looking forward to AAU basketball starting in two weeks. Pat has been coaching 3rd grade AAU for a few years, and Jayden cannot wait to get to play for his dad with his classmates. I don't think there is anyone out there that loves basketball as much as Jayden. He has been playing since he could walk. When he was in the 1st grade, he played on a 4th grade team at the YMCA. He has also been playing with Jayce's class for a few years, and played with the current 4th graders last year. I can't wait to see him play again this year. He was thrilled when Uncle Mike told his dad tonight that they could start practice in two weeks. Jayden had a blast this past summer attending the Damon Bailey Basketball Camp where he won the one on one competition beating Damon's son in the finals. Also, Jayden loved when he attended Coach Sandifar's camp at LHS this summer. Coach Sandifar, OCU 's basketball coach, coached both Pat & Mike in college. Coach Sandifar told Pat that he knew who Jayden was right off. He said that Jayden was a lot like someone he had coached. He said that Jayce must look just like his mom. lol As far as Jayce's teacher, well what can I say - he has a real mom for a teacher. lol I also can't wait for his basketball games to start. I love to watch his class play all sports. They are such an athletic/competitive group of boys. They are so much fun! I have really enjoyed watching them grow up, and it is so hard to believe they are 6th graders. Jayce just made a poster about him to display in the classroom, and just looking at the pics makes me sad to see how fast time goes by. Before I know it, Jaybe will be a 6th grader.
Here are a few pics from Jayce's field trip last week:)
I'm so sweet:) Mommy's little Angel!

Aunt Tara playing "Heads Up/7 Up" with Jayce next to her.

Leighton

My friend Lacy's son, LJ, is in the hospital again. He is running a high temp and should be having tubes put in his ears tomorrow. Please keep Lacy, Josh, and Leighton Joshua in your prayers. They have been through so much over the past two weeks. Lacy is also expecting, and is extremely high risk for a tubal pregnancy. Lacy is the kindest person I know, and I would do anything for her! I love her so much, and I wish I could do more for her during this difficult time in her life. She is also in her final semester at VU before student teaching this spring, along with coaching 7th grade volleyball. Lacy is an amazing christian, wife, mother, daughter, daughter-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, niece, cousin, teacher, coach, friend, and God mother.
May God heal Little LJ!

Clarification

I am not sure why I am writing this post, but since I got my "one" feeling hurt, I thought I might need to make some "clarifications". This is mainly for anyone that doesn't really know or care about me, is reading my blog looking to find negativity in it, or not a part of the "Cheerleading Family" that I coached.
When I was asked to post six random facts about myself, I just started typing from my heart. NOTHING that I wrote was to hurt anyone. I think I even put that as one of my six random facts about myself. I hate to see anyone hurt, and would not ever want to hurt someone. I guess that is why I feel the need to clarify that I was talking about the past not the present. If you ever cheered for me, you would know that what I was writing about was coming from the competitive part of cheerleading that I worked so hard to build and now it is gone. That is not a reflection on the current program, it is just a fact that we no longer offer competitive cheerleading at Loogootee. As far as Jayleigh goes, my children are my life. I said my "wish" is for her to be a state champion cheerleader. If someday she would desire to be on a competitive cheer team, and Loogootee doesn't have one, then she might attend another school. My post wasn't the first time I have made that comment. I am sure the Moll's caught grief for doing what they felt was best for their son. (Again, this is from the past, so some of you reading this might not get what I am talking about.)
My PS was totally for Allison who means the world to me. The only thing that I would change in the post was in the PS. I should have used the word "competitive" not "quality". So, I do apologize to anyone that thought that was a slam to the current cheerleaders or sponsors. I know what I meant, and I am sure anyone that knows me and how I feel about cheerleading knows that I have spent the majority of my life defending cheerleading, and for some crazy reason, I am still doing it.

I've Been Tagged

I have been asked to share six random facts about me. Thanks, Ashlye!

1. I hate it when people ask me, "You know what causes that... right?", referring to my six beautiful children. Or when they say, "You are finished.... right?" I wish I had the nerve to tell them what I truthfully would like to say. Also, when we had the triplets, if we heard it once, we heard it a thousand times, "I'm glad it's you and not me." We would always smile thinking we are glad it is us and not you, too! I want people to know that I am thankful that God chose me to raise six wonderful children, and wouldn't trade being a mother of six for anything!

2. Cheerleading is a passion of mine, and I take it very seriously. (Just ask anyone that has argued with me about it being a sport!-tim- lol) I dedicated many hours/years building a cheerleading program at Loogootee from the elementary up. I helped put Loogootee Cheerleading on our State map. It seems just like yesterday that we were Back 2 Back State Champions and envied by so many who wished they had our Cheerleading Program. I will forever be grateful to my "Cheerleading Family" for their love and support of what many were so proud of (excluding the administration/school board). I will never understand why our school would take so many steps forward, and then throw it away. When my team would walk in a gym, everyone knew they were there and couldn't wait to see them perform! To all of my past cheerleaders and assistant coaches - I will never forget your hard work and dedication to the sport I love, CHEERLEADING! My wish is that Jayleigh will be able to experience what my cheerleaders got to be - STATE CHAMPIONS! Sorry, she may have to be a Jasper Wildcat!(Go Belinda)
PS Allison Drake (Sweet Pea) is now a Varsity Cheer Coach at Evansville, a four A school that is ranked #1 in football (I would love to see you at a football game, lol). Way to go, Sweet Pea! I am so proud of you. Loogootee Cheerleading (When Business Was Good lol) taught you well! I only wish you would come back to teach & coach at Loogootee, but we all know how receptive they are of quality cheerleading. Thank God you found a cheer program that is similar to the one you experienced!

3. I hate rumors, gossip, and being around negative people. If you don't have anything nice to say, then keep your mouth shut! I dislike people that thrive on keeping the pot stirred, and want nothing more than to hurt others. I feel like I seem to get caught in the middle of gossip circles because I try to be a friend to everyone. I hate when others are hurting, and my sisters say, "Don't hurt Nikki's one feeling."

4. My Catholic faith is my backbone. Even though I don't attend mass weekly, I do pray daily, and love God with my whole heart!

5. I love how I spend most of my days; with my students at school. I love being a teacher, and find it very rewarding. They give me way more than I give them. I feel blessed to get to spend each day with children that want to be there as much as I do.

6. Just in case anyone is wondering, I love my husband and he loves me!

Now, I would like to tag: Sarah T., April B., Lauren B., & Leah R.

Jaybe's Favorites

<div style="width:400px; This blog is for everyone that is starting rumors, packing tells, or not sure what to believe.
NEVER has DENISE (Patrick's mom) and my sister BOBBI had a fight. They are extremely close, AND no fight, disagreement, or screaming match occurred at the hospital or any other place. Patrick loved that his mom and Bobbi are so much a like. Patrick was extremely close to Bobbi and they talked daily. If Patrick was to confide in someone outside of his mom, dad, Megan, or Tara, it would have been Bobbi. I resent whoever started this rumor, and anyone that would believe it enough to even ask if it is true. Bobbi, Denise, Megan, Tara, and I talk daily. If you have any questions, please leave a post on this blog and it will be answered. Contrary to what some would like to believe, our families were and still are very close. THAT IS WHAT FAMILY IS ABOUT!!!! ALL THE GOSSIPERS NEED TO TAKE A CLOSE LOOK AT TARA'S BLOG! TARA AND PATRICK WERE MADLY IN LOVE WITH EACH OTHER & OUR FAMILIES LOVE EACH OTHER!!!
As for all that want to gossip to just have something to talk about, get a life!
Nikki

Strength

I would like to ask for prayers of strength to help me get through the next two days. I know how much we are grieving, and I can only imagine what they feel. Patrick was loved by so many and his compassionate personality was a reflection of his upbringing. His parents and sister have been so good to my sister and her children. I pray that God gives us the strength to get through the tough times ahead. I don't think we could have ever been prepared for what we are going through. This feels like a bad nightmare that we can't wake up from.

Tara was so extremely happy, and now to see it taken from her seems so unfair. Patrick had touched our lives in ways that we never thought would be possible. We loved him and he loved us. He loved Tara and her children so much. They made plans for a life of happiness together.

Patrick had spent the past few weeks preparing what he wanted to be the perfect proposal. He was trying so hard to keep it a secret from Tara. He had searched the internet and made trips to all the jewelers in Evansville until he had finally found the perfect ring. Tuesday, he went to Zales in Bloomington to buy her engagement/wedding ring (in which he told Tara that he was going to Bloomington to exchange Tanner's tennis shoes). The sales associate at Zales, Mandy, remembers Patrick well and how much he wanted to get the perfect ring. He told her that they had a trip planned to San Diego where he planned to propose to her on the beach. The last thing he said to Tara when leaving on Wednesday before the accident was I LOVE YOU AND YOU DO KNOW THAT I AM GOING TO MAKE YOU MY WIFE. How unfair this is!!!! How can God be so cruel to give her the miracle she had prayed for and then to take him away. I know our faith tells us that we are not to understand and everything is with reason, but I am having a hard time finding the reason for the pain and suffering my sister is enduring. She loved Patrick with all her heart and he loved her to the moon and back. They were so perfect for each other.

*Patrick serenaded Tara with the song, Livin Our Love Song, which is the second song on my playlist.*<div
